Ashford Road, Chartham, Canterbury
Kent, CT4 7HN
We are open between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday for 51 weeks of the year closing only for bank holidays and a week between Christmas and New Year. We endeavour to open no matter what the weather.
We are committed to providing the highest level of care to every child, as the first years in your child’s life are the most important. It is our aim to create a happy and secure environment where your child can develop whilst learning through play.
Inside we have 2 main areas of learning: Baby room and preschool room. Children will have an allocated room along with their chosen key person, this will be dependent on their age and ability. Fee flow will be experienced daily to allow indoor and outdoor play. Our extensive outdoor facilities are accessible in all weather conditions, including the baby garden, vegetable patch for the green fingered, large outdoor play area, undercover canopy, water play area and a mud kitchen. We are currently following Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Safety and risk assessments
The safety of the children is paramount at Snowflakes Day Nursery. The building is equipped with smoke detectors and fire alarms. Fire drills for children and staff are held on a regular basis. We have a video entry system which allows us to see who is at the door and in the car park and prevents unauthorised access. Risk assessments are carried out on a daily basis to ensure maximum safety at all times. Staff have regular health and safety training at meetings.
Special educational needs
We will do our upmost to cater for special needs. We have a designated special educational needs coordinator (SENCO) within the setting at all times. Please make us aware if you require any assistance.
We encourage full parental involvement with an ‘open door policy’, however we understand the busy schedules you may have. Due to this we offer many other opportunities such as play mornings and parent consultations termly. Our staff are always available for feedback and will make time for any questions you may have. We welcome any ideas that may improve our service for you.
Meals and hygiene
Meals are prepared on the premises daily. Our 3 weekly menu is displayed in the nursery corridor. Where ever possible we use our home grown vegetables for cooking activities. We provide breakfast and morning snacks, lunch will be hot and home cooked, a healthy afternoon snack and nutritious high tea at 4pm. We have been given 5 stars from environmental health and cater for all children’s needs including those with food allergies.
To register your child a place at Snowflakes Day Nursery you will need to complete a registration form and return along with a £100 deposit refundable with 4 weeks written notice. We require the £100 deposit and a month’s fees upfront before your child attends the nursery (the £100 deposit and the months fees upfront do not apply to children who do Free Early Education funded hours only, i.e. 15 or 12 hours of Free Early Education only).
This will then secure a place for your child at the nursey. We offer settling in sessions for you and your child, this normally consists of 3 separate sessions for up to one hour. We advise the sessions are at different times of the day for example morning/lunch/afternoon. During this time your child will have the opportunity to explore, play and bond with their key person and you will be able to view our operational plan containing policies and procedures (which need to read prior to your child starting with us).
We require a £100 deposit and a month’s fees upfront before your child attends the nursery (this does not apply to children who do free early education funded hours only)
If your child is absent for any reason including but not exclusively holidays or ill health, you will still be required to pay the full amount of childcare.
Once we have agreed your child’s hours you must stick to them, however where possible and dependant on staff to child ratio we may be able to swap days around or add on extra days with at least a months’ notice. For those receiving only Free Early Education a notice period is not required if you are leaving the setting.
You will be entitled to 2 weeks holiday per calendar year at a 50% charge of your normal fees (this is not applicable to children who only use funded sessions). Pro-rated holiday to run from January to December e.g. if your child does 2 days per week non funded then you have 4 days holiday at 50% of the normal charge per year. 4 weeks’ notice will be required.
For children who use funded hours only there will be a £3 charge for meals, alternatively parents/carers can provide children with snacks and a packed lunch and no charge will apply.
